School Accountability Report Summary
School Accountability Reports
The Thompson School District received its eighth annual School Accountability Reports (SARs) in the fall of 2008 detailing achievement and other performance and profile data for each of its schools.
The report provides two primary ratings for each school. The first is the "Overall Academic Performance on State Assessments," which refers to the performance on CSAP (Colorado Student Assessment Program) tests in elementary and middle schools and the performance on CSAP and ACT combined in high schools. Based on a weighted index formula that assigns points for how each student performed on CSAP, schools are given an overall score, which is then translated into a rating of excellent, high, average, low or unsatisfactory. Generally, the top 8% of schools receive an "excellent" rating; the next 25% receive a "high" rating; the next 40% receive an "average" rating; the next 25% receive a low rating; and the bottom 2% of schools receive an "unsatisfactory" rating.
This year's reports also include new academic growth ratings based on data from the Colorado Growth Model. Schools can receive a "high," "typical" and "low" growth rating that reflects the progress being made by all students in the school toward meeting the state standards of proficiency as measured by CSAP. The growth model determines how many students have achieved one year's academic growth by comparing the current growth of students to the growth of statewide peers who had similar past CSAP performances. A rating of high would indicate that, overall, students at the school showed more academic growth than most schools while a low rating would indicate that, overall, students in the school showed less than expected growth.
