Nutrition Services

The Thompson School District participates in the National School Lunch Program. With the help of the program, we are able to offer nutritious, well-balanced lunches every school day in 28 different locations. We strive to serve approximately one-third of a student's daily nutritional requirements (USDA standards) through this lunch program. At many of our school sites, we also offer student participation in the Federal School Breakfast Program. Through this breakfast program, we are able to provide juice, milk, and fruit as well as two bread or meat alternatives.

Through careful menu planning and governmental assistance, our quality food service programs provide meals at a reasonable cost. We want our students to learn healthy eating habits which will pave the way for better health throughout their lives. School meals contain a variety of foods and occasionally offer students exposure to new foods.

Each breakfast and lunch menu is planned by our food service staff. We try to take into consideration menu choice popularity by the students and also provide variety and occasional introductions of new menu choices. Our menus are planned using the Food Guide Pyramid as a general guide for choosing a healthy diet. Portion sizes vary according to the age and grade level to better meet the nutritional needs of our students.

National research studies have shown that students who are well nourished have a history of better attendance, are more attentive in class and have more energy to participate in school activities. Have lunch with your student anytime!
