Substituting in Thompson School District
Thompson School District (TSD) accepts substitute applications on an on-going basis for licensed staff (i.e. teachers, nurses, occupational therapists) and classified staff (i.e. clerical, secretarial, paraprofessionals). To pick-up a substitute packet, come to the Thompson School District office located at 800 S Taft Avenue, Loveland, CO 80537. Instructions to apply for a substitute position are listed below.
- Classified Staff:
- Complete all paperwork in the substitute packet.
- Return the paperwork to the district office. An I-9 Form - requires photo ID (see the back of the I-9 form for acceptable forms of ID). This form must be completed in the presence of a District employee.
- Bring a voided check from your bank account to arrange for direct deposit. This service is optional, but highly recommended.
- Prepare to be fingerprinted shortly after completing an application. You will receive specific information on how to go through the fingerprinting process from the District.
- Licensed Staff:
- Follow the steps above except the fingerprinting process (CDE fingerprints licensed applicants through the licensing process).
- Include a copy of your teaching license (or 3 or 5 year substitute authorization) and three letters of recommendation.

Substitute Orientation (July 16, 2009):
- Plan to attend the Substitute orientation on July 16, 2009 from 1 - 4pm. The orientation will be held at 800 S. Taft Avenue in Loveland. You will be mailed notification of the date and time.
- Expect to be contacted by the sub-coordinator if you apply for a substitute position AFTER July. The coordinator will inform you when you are entered into SubFinder and are ready to begin taking sub positions. Current Subs may attend the Orientation the following July, if desired.
- Substitute Licensing:
Colorado law states that in Colorado one must hold a Colorado Teaching License or a Colorado Substitute Authorization in order to be a substitute for a licensed position. Both are issued by the Colorado Department of Education. For further information or to receive the appropriate licensing application, please contact the Colorado Department of Education at 303.866.6628 or access their website at www.cde.state.co.us and click on Educator Licensing. Please note the licensing process can take ten to twelve weeks to complete, so apply early.
