Media Services

Mission: In partnership with our educational community, Thompson Media Services provides multi-level support through materials, resources and services to facilitate student learning and to support the instructional goals of schools and library media programs.

School Library Media Programs: Assistance is provided for school library media staff as they work with teachers to plan instruction to help students meet and/or exceed information literacy and content standards, select curriculum materials and provide staff training. Access to the school library collection has been automated to provide key word searching. Reference databases on CD-ROM and the internet are available to help students and staff use appropriate information resources for research.

Instructional Resources Used District Wide: Instructional materials at District Media Services support the adopted curriculum and school educational plans with materials that can be shared among schools. These materials include videocassettes, computer software, CD-ROM programs, laser discs, novel sets, science resource kits and educational television programming provided by Rocky Mountain PBS. A catalog containing information about instructional material is available to district teachers.

Science Resource Program: The district has adopted a hands-on science curriculum for grades kindergarten through 6th grade which includes four or five resource kits for each grade level. The goal is to provide a curriculum whereby students can master knowledge, concepts, skills and processes in the science area. The Science Resource Kits are stocked, scheduled and circulated from Media Services.

Staff Development (Technology Integration and Curriculum Standards): Staff training is provided on the use of technology in instruction for student learning. Classes for credit are available through BOCES, and mini-workshops (2-3 hours) are scheduled during the school day or on early release Wednesdays. Schools can select training from a list of approximately twenty different instructional topics related to using technology in instruction, or sessions are planned around specific needs of the school staff. Technology Staff Development Facilitators from each school develop profiles and benchmarks for technology literate students in kindergarten through 6th grade.
