Student Outreach
The primary function of the Student Outreach Department is to oversee the Safety and Belonging strand of the Strategic plan. Student Outreach accomplishes this with the help of counselors in our schools, bully proofing initiatives, crisis preparedness and planning, character education and the positive behavior support initiative. Student Outreach also works on truancy prevention, drug and alcohol education, and educational alternatives for students and their parents. Student Outreach services is also a liaison to the community agencies which address similar issues.

A 5-unit instructional program designed to teach elementary school children, in a very positive way, skills that will help keep them safe from personally harmful situations. The curriculum emphasizes child abuse & assault prevention and victim services & referrals.

Addresses three main areas:
- Safety & Belonging: Promotes an increase in positive multi-cultural interactions within school communities through a variety of diverse learning experiences.
- Basic Skills: Supports minority and other represented students to achieve academically at an equitable rate.
- School-to-Life: Through access to high level educational options and mentoring, minority and under-represented students will have increased access to school-to-life opportunities.

Work with homeless families to ensure immediate enrollment of their children in school. Help arrange transportation to and from child's school of origin. Ensure that homeless students receive services comparable to those received by housed school mates. Identify and eliminate barriers to school enrollment and attendance.

POPS Program(People Offering People Support) Contact number 613-5776
A system of support groups for youth in the middle schools designed to work with students at their appropriate development level. It is adaptable to the individual school's structure & culture. Groups are designed to improve students' functioning in school & at home. The belief is that students who develop positive relationships & learn to make healthy choices will be more productive learners. Students are provided the opportunities to address issues in their lives as well as learn to peacefully resolve conflicts. Topics that arise in groups are student-driven.
